~Chapter 14~

I was at a red light on Douglas and Kedzie when I spotted the red Avalanche… and the large, dark man who was crouched down beside its passenger door with an assault rifle in hand.

Further up the busy street, I saw Tyrone and Joe-Joe. They were just exiting their apartment building. I could see the guns in their hands and the long 30-round clips. I glanced over my shoulder at the two duffle bags in the back seat, and for the first time in a long while, I froze up. The possibility of me getting busted with seventeen kilos of cocaine and just under a quarter million in cash was a hard pill to swallow. But my loyalty to Tyrone far outweighed the fear of any prison sentence.

I parked my big orange box Chevy in the middle of traffic and stepped out with my AK-47.

“Black Cory,” I shouted.

The man hunched down next to the Avalanche looked back at me.

I opened fire.
